With 45,576 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours on Thursday, India witnessed a jump of over 50 per cent in such cases reported on Tuesday, pushing its cumulative tally to 89,58,483. As per Health Ministry data, the total death toll rose to 1,31,578 with 585 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, a jump of 24 per cent over the previous day's figure. Europe has half of world's 4 million new virus cases but sees hope

Europe made up almost half of the world's 4 million new coronavirus cases last week but recorded a nearly 10 per cent fall in infections compared to the week before, thanks in part to strict government lockdown measures that have fanned some discontent, the World Health Organization reported Wednesday. In the German capital of Berlin, violent clashes between those protesting coronavirus restrictions and police erupted Wednesday near the center of the city after protesters disregarded police advice to wear masks and social distance.

Portugal has set up a taskforce to come up with a Covid-19 vaccination strategy and hopes to be prepared to start distributing shots as early as January, health minister Marta Temido said on Thursday. Pfizer says analysis shows 3.8% of participants experienced fatigue

Pfizer Inc on Tuesday updated its analysis of the safety profile of its Covid-19 vaccine seen during its large, late-stage trial, saying that 3.8% of participants experienced fatigue after receiving a second dose of the shot. It said the updated analysis was based on 8,000 trial participants. Pfizer said in a previous analysis that 3.7% of 6,000 volunteers had experienced fatigue.

Chinese officials have claimed that traces of Covid-19 were found on more cold-chain imports from different countries, including India, amid increasing criticism from several nations that the testing and restrictions are not based on science and would disrupt trade. Cold-chain imports from India, Russia and Argentina test positive for Covid-19 in one day in China, state-run Global Times reported on Wednesday. No Chhath Puja at public places, have to be alive to celebrate any festival: Delhi HC
Amidst the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the Delhi high court Wednesday refused to grant permission to celebrate Chhath Puja at public places like ponds, riverbanks and temples, saying that a person has to be alive to celebrate any festival and practice any religion. The right to health of Delhi residents is supreme and granting any such permission to celebrate Chhath Puja would necessarily result in the celebration turning into a 'super spreader' of the infection, the high court said. "While religious sentiments of all sections of the society must be respected, the right to life and health of the public at large cannot be sacrificed at the altar of a right to celebrate a festival, however, significant it may be for a particular community," said a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad. Government undertook 3-pronged approach to tackle Covid-19: Health secretary

A three-pronged approach was undertaken by the government to tackle Covid-19 which was based upon strengthening health systems and forging new partnerships, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Wednesday said. Speaking at the inaugural session at Asia Health 2020 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, he said a "whole of society and whole of government approach" with strong leadership, communication and decisions based on science was undertaken by the government. "The second approach was strengthening health systems by building on past efforts, by relying on current strategies, by deploying new technology, by strengthening existing partnerships and forging new partnerships. The third approach was the digital initiatives undertaken by the union government to help in our fight against Covid," he said.
