Coronavirus updates: MOS and BJP MP Suresh Angadi dies of Covid-19

Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was hospitalised on Wednesday due to coronavirus, sources said.The 48-year-old Aam Aadmi Party leader has been admitted to the state-run LNJP Hospital here, they added.He had tested positive for the infection on September 14 and was in home isolation.

Johnson & Johnson on Wednesday kicked off a final 60,000-person trial of a single-shot Covid-19 vaccine that potentially would simplify distribution of millions of doses compared with leading rivals using two doses.The company expects results of the Phase III trial by year end or early next year, Dr. Paul Stoffels, J&J's chief scientific officer, said in a joint press conference with officials from the National Institutes of Health and the Trump administration.

India's total tests for detection of Covid-19 has reached over 6.6 crore and tests per million have risen to 48,028 as on date with the national cumulative positivity rate being recorded at 8.52 per cent, the Union health ministry said on Wednesday.

A batch of Remdesivir for treatment of Covid-19 patients has been withdrawn in view of "sub-standard quality" of the medicine, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Wednesday. He told reporters that the move caused a short-term shortage of the drug in the state.

As many as 253 personnel of Maharashtra Police tested positive for Covid-19 while five of them succumbed to the infectious disease in the last 24 hours.With the latest infections, the total number of cases in the State's force touched 21,827, including 3,435 active cases. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said that there is a shortage of private hospital beds in the capital especially in ICUs. However, he further stated that there is "no shortage" of medical oxygen in the capital for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The Covid-19 tally in Thane has gone up to 1,61,659 with the addition 1,406 new cases in the Maharashtra district, an official said on Wednesday. The death toll in the district reached 4,205 as 33 more patients succumbed to the disease on Tuesday, he said.
