Coronavirus live updates: Nearly 2 crore people in Karnataka were Covid-19 infected

With vaccine candidates progressing swiftly and entering advance stages of clinical trials, the government is gearing up to ensure there is adequate capacity to store and supply them even in remote corners of the country once they are approved for use.Health ministry said under the universal immunisation programme (UIP), it utilises over 28,000 cold chain points, 700 plus refrigerator vans and more than 78,000 vaccinators to assist in vaccine administration.

The Covid-19 tally in Sikkim rose to 4,004 as 37 fresh cases were reported in the last 24-hours, an official said on Tuesday. Of the 37 new cases, 35 were reported from East Sikkim district and one case each was reported West Sikkim and North Sikkim districts, state Information Education and Communication (IEC) member Sonam Bhutia said. Sikkim presently has 271 active cases, while 3,578 patients have recovered from the disease and 82 others have migrated to other states, Bhutia said. The Himalayan state has so far reported 73 Covid-19 deaths. East Sikkim has the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 2,990.

Delhi recorded its highest single-day spike of 6,725 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday and the total count of cases has crossed the four-lakh mark. According to Delhi government, active cases in Delhi currently stand at 36,375, while 3,60,069 people have recovered from the viral infection and the total count of cases stands at on 4,03,096. The death toll due to the disease stands at 6,725 with 48 deaths reported on Tuesday.

UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum received a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday. Sheikh Mohammed shared a picture on Twitter of him getting vaccinated by a medical staffer.

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,772 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection on Tuesday, bringing the total number in the country to 387,161. The DOH said 153 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 348,967. The death toll climbed to 7,318 after 49 more patients died from the viral disease.
