Coronavirus in India live updates: Centre, Bharat Biotech invite other companies to scale up Covaxin production

India's daily case count of Covid-19 went past the 3.5 lakh mark on Thursday after a two-day low even as the country recorded more than 4,000 deaths for the second day in a row. With 3,62,727 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's total caseload now stands at 2,37,03,665, as per the Union health ministry data updated at 8:00 am. The state government decided that the vaccine procured directly by the state for vaccination of persons between 18 to 44years will be utilized for vaccination of beneficiaries who are due for second dose.

PM was briefed that the Government is actively monitoring the supply of drugs being used in the management of Covid as well Mucormycosis. The Minister updated PM that they are in regular touch with the manufacturers to enhance production & extend all kind of help needed. PM was also informed about the current production & stock of APIs for each such drug. It was discussed that states are being provided medicines in good quantities. PM was also apprised that the production of all drugs including Remdesivir have been ramped up significantly in the last few weeks.

The entire process of foreign aid to fight the second wave of COVID-19 is transparent, and so far 87 consignments from 28 countries have been received and delivered without delay to the states, government think tank Niti Aayog said on Wednesday. The Aayog further said that distribution is based on a standard operating procedure and all states/UTs have been supported to date.

Experts on Wednesday said transmission of coronavirus through water is not a concern, after bodies of suspected COVID-19 patients were fished out of the Ganga and Yamuna. "If the water is passed for water supply, then it passes through the water supply system. Normal treatment takes care of it,” said Satish Tare, professor at IIT-Kanpur, who teaches environmental engineering, water quality and wastewater treatment.
