Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Live Highlights: PM Modi to BJP workers - 'Make sure elderly remind youth of Jungle Raj atrocities'

Bihar is preparing for its 243-member Assembly elections, with polling set to take place in two phases on November 6 and 11, and the results to be declared on November 14. The state is witnessing a high-stakes battle between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition-led INDIA bloc. The NDA, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), has already finalised its seat-sharing formula. The BJP and JDU will each contest 101 seats, while LJP (Ram Vilas) has been allotted 29, and both HAM and RLM will fight on six seats each. Bihar BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde underscored the alliance’s cohesion and readiness to return to power. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc, led by Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD along with the Congress, CPI (ML), CPI, CPM, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP), is in the final stages of ironing out its seat-sharing arrangement. Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru and other party leaders said discussions are underway to ensure an equitable distribution of seats. Congress leader Manoj Kumar indicated that an announcement is expected soon, expressing confidence in leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Tejashwi Yadav. The upcoming election is shaping up to be a closely fought contest, with the NDA seeking to retain power and the INDIA bloc aiming to present a united front. The entry of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj is also expected to add a new dimension to Bihar’s electoral landscape

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday reflected on his past alliances with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), saying he had joined the party “because of circumstances.” Reaffirming his commitment to the NDA, he said he is “back in NDA for good.” He also criticised the RJD’s rule before his 20-year tenure as chief minister, saying, “pehle bahut bura haal tha,” and highlighted the shortcomings of the Lalu-Rabri governments, taking aim at their administration.

Addressing his first election rally in Minapur, Muzaffarpur, Kumar took a dig at his rival Lalu Prasad and said, “Because of circumstances, I had to tie up with those people, but it did not take me long to realise that they were good for nothing. Now I am back (in NDA) for good.”

Kumar recalled that his earlier alliances with the RJD in 2015 and 2022 both lasted less than two years. On both occasions, Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav, now leader of the opposition in Vidhan Sabha, served as his deputy chief minister.

'Rahul Gandhi has nothing to do with Bihar, its development and problems': Prashant Kishor
Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Tuesday targeted Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his absence in the Bihar Assembly polls and said that the latter was active only to put pressure on the Rashtriya Janata Dal for more seats.

Speaking to ANI, Kishor claimed that Rahul Gandhi has no connection to Bihar or its development. He added that Rahul Gandhi will soon visit, hold a few rallies, and that will mark the end of Bihar's relevance for the Congress MP.

"Rahul Gandhi was active only so that by putting pressure, he could get a few more seats from the RJD. He has nothing to do with Bihar, Bihar's development, or Bihar's problems. If he doesn't get a seat, he'll sit in Delhi. He'll come only at election time, hold three or four rallies, and for him, Bihar's story is finished," he said.

The Jan Suraaj founder said that the people of Bihar need to worry about people such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who would come to the state at election time, mislead people, take their votes and leave.

VIP says will approach court if RJD nominee refuses to withdraw nomination
Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) president Santosh Sahani on Tuesday announced plans to move the Patna high court against election officials in Darbhanga’s Gaura Bauram constituency for failing to cancel the nomination of RJD candidate Afzal Ali Khan. Despite RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s written request to withdraw Khan’s candidature after the seat was allocated to the VIP under the Mahagathbandhan seat-sharing arrangement, the RJD nominee did not step down.

The RJD had initially allotted its symbol to Khan before leaving the seat for the VIP, which fielded Santosh Sahani, the younger brother of party founder Mukesh Sahani. With Khan still in the fray, the Gaura Bauram seat is now set for an unusual face-off between two Mahagathbandhan candidates. The BJP has fielded Sujit Kumar, while Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has nominated Md Iftekhar Alam, adding further intrigue to the contest.

Shah is also expected to join processions for NDA candidates filing their nomination papers.
