Assam, West Bengal election 2021 live updates: Bengal, Assam witness high turnout as Phase 1 voting concludes

First phase of polling for Assam and West Bengal assembly elections are being conducted today. Voters in 47 seats in Assam in the state's north-eastern region will be voting today. In West Bengal, 30 seats in the Jungal Mahal area in the south-western fringes go to polls today. 7 seats in Bengal have been identified as extremely sensitive, while the number is 3 for Assam. A huge controversy erupted onSunday amid the polling for 30 assembly seats in West Bengal, with the BJP releasing an audio clip where chief minister Mamata Banerjee is purportedly heard cajoling a BJP leader from Nandigram to rejoin the TMC and help her win the seat. A BJP delegation, led by party general secretary and Bengal minder Kailash Vijayvargiya, met the state's chief electoral officer and handed over the tape, claiming Banerjee was using her official position to influence the outcome of the bitterly contested assembly poll.
