In Alangulam, DMK candidate Paul Manoj Pandian won the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election by 7,798 votes against AIADMK candidate K.R.P. Prabakaran, while Vibin Chakkaravarthy contested from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.Alangulam Assembly Constituency is situated in Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu, under Tirunelveli Lok Sabha, serving a rural agricultural area focused on paddy and millets with the town of Alangulam as its hub. P H Manoj Pandian (also Manoj Pandian) of AIADMK is the current MLA as of March 2026, having won in 2021 with 74,153 votes (36.44% share), defeating DMK's Poongothai (70,614 votes) by a margin of 3,539 votes, with voter turnout at 77.4% and no changes since. Key issues include irrigation shortages, poor rural roads and power reliability, limited healthcare and education facilities, youth unemployment, and demands for better welfare schemes in this underdeveloped region.
