Ukraine will observe a ceasefire with Russia starting May 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday, following Moscow’s unilateral truce declaration tied to the May 9 holiday.

“As of today, there has been no official appeal to Ukraine regarding the modality of a cessation of hostilities that is being claimed on Russian social media,” Zelensky said in a post on X.

He added, “we are announcing a ceasefire regime starting at 00:00… on the night of May 5–6,” expressing hope that “silence takes effect” in the remaining time.
