When it comes to the United States of America market for Indian films, it is the Hindi and Telugu films that have dominated the scene. When it comes to Tamil films it is only
Rajinikanth and
Thalapathy Vijay who has managed to gain some ground with their films- take 2025 the biggest grossing Indian film before Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar took the top spot was Rajinikanth’s Coolie. And now it seems it Vijay’s turn to show his star power with his latest and final film Jana Nayagan. The film releasing on 9th January is clashing with Prabhas’s The Raja Saab and despite opening its advance booking after Prabhas’s film- Vijay’s film is tracking in a much better way.
Jana Nayagan- directed by H Vinoth and also featuring Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde has already collected over USD 107,000 in USA cinema halls while Prabhas’s film has collected USD 173,000 in the same market.
Post the success of Baahubali series, Prabhas has dominated the North American ticket window but with his latest being a horror-comedy genre has found resistance from his fans. Given the context of Prabhas’s past films like Kalki 2898 AD or Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire had gone on to collect more than USD 1 million in North American territory with less than 2 weeks to go for its premiere shows but here The Raja Saab is struggling to cross USD 220K.It would be interesting to see how both the films fare from here point on.
Vijay has also been dominating the UK markets where usually Tamil films fare better than Telugu films. Until a few days ago it had sold over 22,000 tickets for the first weekend.
Post Jana Nayagan, Vijay is all set to kickstart his political career in a full fledged manner, he has started his own party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ( TVK) , it was registed by the Election Commision of India as a political party last year in september on 2024.
