Melodies of Bappi Lahiri celebrated on his birth anniversary in Kolkata

The timeless melodies of legendary music composer Bappi Lahiri were celebrated in Kolkata to mark his birth anniversary through a special musical evening titled Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Organised by The Dreamers and Haimantir Konthe, the event took place at Wisdom Tree and paid tribute to Lahiri’s rich and versatile musical legacy.While Bappi Lahiri is widely remembered as the Disco King of Indian cinema, the evening highlighted the softer, melody driven side of his repertoire. Noted singer Haimanti Roy rendered a carefully curated selection of his classic songs that continue to resonate across generations. Her performances included favourites such as Bolchi Tomay Kane Kane, Aaj Ei Din Take Moner Khatay Likhe Rakho, Mangal Dweep Jwele, Prem Kise Hoy Ta, Mana Ho Tum, Yeh Naina Yeh Kajal and Pyaar Manga Hai Tumse, among others. Adding depth to the evening was elocutionist and anchor Satinath Mukherjee, who shared anecdotes and lesser known stories behind the songs, offering the audience insights into Bappi Lahiri’s personal and professional journey.Speaking about the tribute, Haimanti Roy said, “It’s an honour to perform his songs. He is known as the Disco King, but his melodious compositions are also my most favourite. I chose these gems to pay tribute to the trend setting music composer on his birthday.”The commemorative evening stood as a heartfelt reminder of Bappi Lahiri’s enduring musical brilliance beyond disco beats.
