Angelina Jolie’s 'Couture' has received its India OTT release date. The fashion drama will premiere in India on Lionsgate Play on May 15. Set during Paris Fashion Week, the film follows three women whose lives cross inside a world shaped by beauty, pressure, and constant performance. Jolie plays Maxine, an American filmmaker working on a major fashion project while facing a deeply personal health crisis.
'Couture' India OTT release date confirmed
According to the platform, 'Couture' centers on Maxine, Ada, and Angèle, three women from different worlds who meet inside the demanding space of Paris Fashion Week. Ada, played by Anyier Anei, is a young South Sudanese model looking for her breakthrough. Angèle, played by Garance Marillier, is a makeup artist trying to build an identity beyond the backstage shadows.
The film also stars Louis Garrel and Ella Rumpf.
Alice Winocour directs the drama, which looks past the runway and follows the people who shape fashion from behind the scenes. The story focuses on ambition, illness, identity, and the private struggles carried by women working in a high-pressure industry.
Winocour said she wanted to show the less visible side of fashion.
"What interested me was less what we see of fashion than what is behind the scenes and its appearances. I wanted to closely observe the making of images, the work, to tell what is hidden behind the representations of the feminine, those that we see spread out all over the city. So I immersed myself for a year behind the scenes of fashion shows, while writing the script. I met makeup artists, seamstresses, the little hands of fashion week, but also models, away from the catwalks, between two shows, in their privacy."
Angelina Jolie's film explores Paris Fashion Week
Winocour also explained the meaning behind the title.
"Coutures is an ensemble film built around three characters, Maxine, Ada and Angèle. There was the desire to sew the destiny of these three women, who come from different worlds, to assemble pieces of lives. Coutures in French means stitches."
She said the title also reflects the film’s form and visual design.
"I wanted the seams of the film to create echoes, rhymes and counterpoints, with shots that respond to each other as if in a round. The title also gives direction to the form and aesthetic intentions of the film, which presents itself as a collage where the seams are visible, playing on sudden changes of universe and ruptures in sound.”
Winocour also described the quiet bond between the three women. "Everyone has something to repair, to resolve in order to move forward. There is an almost invisible solidarity between them."
She added that Maxine, Angèle, and Ada share a connection shaped by chance and hardship. The film uses Paris Fashion Week as its setting, but its story stays focused on ambition, illness, identity, and the quiet strength shared by women under pressure.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
