Karnataka Election News: The BJP on Monday released its third list of 10 candidates for the Karnataka assembly polls and fielded its state general secretary Mahesh Tenginkai from Hubli-Dharwad Central, a seat held by veteran Jagadish Shettar who has joined the Congress after being denied ticket by the ruling party. A day after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar joined the Congress party in the presence of senior party leaders - Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka state assembly Siddaramaiah. After resigning from the post of MLA and from the BJP's principal membership on Sunday, Jagadish Shettar said that he will discuss his next move with the activists. He took to Twitter and said, "Fed up with the political events of the past few days, I have resigned from my MLA seat and will discuss my next move with the activists. The disgruntled Congress leader went to Sirsi and met Speaker Vishweshwar Hegade Kageri and submitted his resignation letter."I have not been given a ticket and three lists of the Congress party are out. Seizures total Rs 170 crore since announcement of Karnataka poll dates: EC
The total confiscations amounting to Rs 170.27 crore include Rs 71 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 38 crore, precious metals worth Rs 29 crore, freebies worth Rs 19 crore, and drugs worth Rs 13 crore, the office of Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer said. As many as 1,410 FIRs have been registered with regard to the seizures.

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said he received a tremendous response in the Shiggaon constituency as the people have blessed him several times. Exuding confidence the CM added that the voters of the constituency will elect him this time with a big majority. Speaking to the media after filing his nomination at the tahsildar's office here on Saturday for the upcoming Assembly polls to be held on May 10, he said, "The voters of the Shiggaon taluk are mature and vigilant. They have voted for the comprehensive development of the taluk. Compared to the previous tenure, it was possible to do more development work this time and focus on the development of everyone equally."

JD(S) manifesto promises Rs 2 lakh each to young ryots’ brides
Former PM and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda on Saturday released a 12-point manifesto in which the party laid emphasis on women’s empowerment and development of farmers. Among other promises, it announced Rs 2 lakh cash incentive each to brides of young farmers. In the manifesto, the party said it will provide five free LPG cylinders in a year, waive loans taken by Stree Shakti Groups, provide Rs 6,000 allowance to pregnant women for six months, hike widow pension from Rs 900 to Rs 2,500 and give pension to people who’ve completed 15 years of service. The party also proposed to provide Rs 10,000 subsidy per acre to farmers; Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for farm labourers; Rs 2 lakh subsidy to women who marry youths who’ve taken up farming. In the manifesto, JD(S) promised to exert pressure on the central government to conduct exams in Kannada for civil services and defence recruitments.

Karnataka CM has assets worth Rs 49.7 crore
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and his dependents have assets worth Rs 52. 1 crore, according to the election affidavit filed along with his first set of nomination papers from Shiggaon assembly constituency, which he has been representing since 2008. Bommai has assets worth Rs 49. 7 crore in his name. The affidavit reveals he purchased nearly three acres of land at Tarihala village in Hubballi taluk of Dharwad as chief minister on March 26, 2022. Both his wife, Channamma, and daughter, Aditi, have invested over Rs 1. 1 crore each. Since his son, Bharat Bommai, is not dependent on his father, his investment details have not been mentioned. However, the CM has given Rs 14. 7 lakh to his son.

: BJP national general secretary CT Ravi believes the new reservation policy of Karnataka government is a masterstroke as it has kept everyone happy, while leaving Congress in a dilemma over the issue of scrapped quota for Muslims. The Supreme Court, meanwhile, is hearing a petition against the rejigged reservation policy on Tuesday, even as the government has given an undertaking not to implement the new quota until Monday.
