Ambattur election results 2026: TVK’s Balamurugan wins by 58,781 votes

Ambattur has delivered a decisive mandate in favour of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, with G Balamurugan securing a convincing victory in a three-cornered contest. With counting complete (28/28 rounds), Balamurugan polled 1,33,339 votes, defeating DMK’s Dr A P Poornima by a margin of 58,781 votes. Poornima secured 74,558 votes, while PMK’s K N Sekar finished third with 35,997 votes.In the 2021 Assembly elections, Joseph Samuel (DMK) won with 1,14,554 votes, defeating AIADMK’s V Alexander, who secured 72,408 votes, by a margin of 42,146 votes. In 2016, AIADMK’s V Alexander had won with 94,375 votes, defeating Congress’s Aassan Maulaana, who secured 76,877 votes, by a margin of 17,498 votes.Ambattur recorded steady voter participation, reflecting continued electoral engagement in this urban constituency.Ambattur, lies in north-west Chennai and is a prominent industrial-cum-residential seat shaped by one of Tamil Nadu’s oldest industrial clusters, densely packed neighbourhoods and expanding commercial zones. With the Ambattur Industrial Estate at its core, the constituency supports a large working- and middle-class population that underpins Chennai’s manufacturing and service sectors. It is also home to Ambattur Lake and a popular Murugan temple, giving the area both ecological and cultural importance. Persistent local issues include flooding during the monsoon and inadequate stormwater drainage, traffic snarls around industrial areas and railway stations, worsening condition of interior and local roads, drinking water shortages in certain localities, shortcomings in solid waste management, pollution and concerns over industrial waste disposal, and heavy pressure on government healthcare facilities.Tamil Nadu went to polls on April 23.
