HYDERABAD: With a mere two weeks left before the Lok Sabha election, political activity in the state of
Telangana is all set to sizzle with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi hitting the campaign trail. What’s more, campaign dates of the titans are set to clash on April 1 as both will hold public meetings in different parts of the state on that day.
While Modi will address two public meetings, one in Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha constituency on March 29, and the other one at LB stadium in the city on April 1, Rahul Gandhi starts his campaigning in Telangana on April 1.
According to state Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Rahul Gandhi will start his campaigning on April 1 with a public meeting in Zaheerabad at 12pm, followed by another in Nagarkurnool at 2pm then at Huzurnagar of Nalgonda Parliamentary constituency at 4pm.
Uttam himself is in fray from Nalgonda, while TPCC vice-president Mallu Ravi is contesting from Nagarkurnool. TPCC IT wing chairman Madan Mohan is fighting it out from Zaheerabad. The Congress plan is to to ensure that Rahul Gandhi addresses voters from at least 12 to 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state in his three public meetings.
BJP president Amit Shah too is expected to hit the campaign trail in Telangana and address five to six public meetings.
While the public meetings of the two star campaigners are set to take the election campaign in Telangana to its peak, TRS is as usual banking on the KCR charisma, welfare schemes of the TRS and the Telangana sentiment to beat it all and give 16 MPS to the pink party. TRS working president KT Rama Rao is working to hold the TRS moralehigh.
Congress is going it alone in the state for the Lok Sabha polls. However, the CPI and Telangana Jana Samiti have announced their support to the Congress in the constituencies where the two parties are not contesting. Even the TDP, which decided not to contest Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, has decided to support non-BJP and non-TRS parties.
