NEW DELHI: In Assam's Goreswar, BJP's Victor Kumar Das won the assembly elections 2026 with a margin of 69,249 votes against United People's Party (Liberal). CPM's Bapuram Boro ended at third position.
Exit polls had suggested a decisive edge for the incumbent government led by
Himanta Biswa Sarma, with most agencies predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party is on course to win a third straight term in Assam.
Voting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%—among the highest seen in recent years.
Importantly, the strong voter participation was evident not only in rural regions but also in urban areas, indicating widespread and energetic engagement from voters across the state.
