Barhampur is one of the 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam. It is a general category seat located in the Nagaon district. Following the 2023 delimitation, it is now is part of the Kaziranga Parliamentary constituency (previously under the Nagaon/Nowgong Lok Sabha seat).
In the 2026 Assembly elections, incumbent Jitu Goswami of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won with a margin of 56,141 votes against veteran leader Rajen Gohain of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP). Other notable candidates include Mazibur Rahman of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,79,641 registered voters, with 1,43,957 valid votes cast. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jitu Goswami won the seat with 70,111 votes.
Congress candidate Suresh Borah finished second with 69,360 votes, losing by a narrow margin of 751 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, Barhampur had 1,62,019 electors, with 1,35,790 valid votes recorded. Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Prafulla Kumar Mahanta won the seat with 65,768 votes, defeating Congress candidate Suresh Bora, who secured 60,599 votes. The victory margin was 5,169 votes.
