Visakhapatnam: A major fire broke out at Shree Radha Krishna Traders (a scrap store) near Autonagar locality under Gajauwaka police station limits in Vizag in the wee hours on Sunday morning, triggering a panic situation at the locality.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties in the mishap as the incident occurred during the wee hours, when there were no workers at the location. The flames and thick plumes of smoke were seen in the early hours on Sunday, causing panic among nearby residents and commuters. Though the officials are yet to establish the loss of the property in the incident, they said large quantities of plastic scrap were gutted in the blaze, with dense fumes filling the surroundings.
Based on the information, personnel from the fire services and police departments rushed to the spot. The officials said four fire tenders were pressed into service, and firefighters worked for more than three hours to bring the flames under control. A case has been registered, and the investigation is underway to establish the exact reasons for the mishap.
