Visakhapatnam: Three people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in parts of the Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district on Monday. In the first incident, two women died, and four were injured when a tree fell on them in a sudden downpour accompanied by strong gales at the weekly market locality in Pedabayalu.
The deceased have been identified as Korra Chittamma and Korra Chilakamma; both were natives of Jarrai village of neighbouring Koraput district of Odisha. As per the reports, the women came to the weekly market to sell forest produce and millets. When the tribal farmers were selling their produce in the market near a tree, heavy rain accompanied by gales lashed the area, resulting in the tree falling on the traders.
The two women died on the spot, and a few others suffered minor injuries.
In another incident, a 13-year-old tribal girl died due to lightning during heavy rainfall at Sinderiguda village under Dumbriguda mandal.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds lashed parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, and thunderstorms lashed isolated places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions in the state on Monday, bringing some relief from the gruelling heat. However, some parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Rayalaseema regions experienced hot, humid and uncomfortable weather conditions on Monday.
