VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada women’s sessions court on Friday sentenced a rowdy-sheeter to life imprisonment in a sensational murder case that occurred under Pamidimukkala police station limits in 2024.
Women’s sessions court magistrate Judge G Rajeswari convicted the accused, Chandavolu Rajashekar, under section 103 of BNS Act and awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 500.
According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of Sep 8, 2024. The victim, Gummadi Prakash Rao, who had separated from his wife and was living near a bus stop between Veerankilaku and Aginaparru, was allegedly attacked while asleep.
Police said the accused, Chandavolu Rajashekar of Meduru village, had been consuming alcohol along with the victim and another person, Kumpati Adiseshu. Following a drunken altercation on the night of Sep 7, the accused allegedly threatened to kill Prakash Rao before leaving the spot.
Around 1 am, the accused reportedly returned to the bus stop and repeatedly struck Prakash Rao on the head with a stone slab, killing him on the spot. The incident was witnessed by Adiseshu, who later informed the complainant, Gummadi Ramana.
