Vijayawada: OPD (Outpatient department) services at the Piduguralla teaching hospital will commence from May 20, health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav announced on Tuesday, following a comprehensive review of the progress of the govt medical college and associated infrastructure.Chairing a high-level meeting at the secretariat, the health minister reviewed the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as the status of civil works related to the college and hospital.Addressing the review meeting, the health minister directed officials to complete recruitment across all categories, including professors, associate professors, assistant professors and tutors, by the end of this month. He also suggested hiring teaching staff on a contract basis if required to meet timelines.Emphasising the need for urgency, Satya Kumar Yadav instructed that key construction works be accelerated and completed before the end of May. He personally spoke with representatives of the construction agency, stressing that major works should be ready by May 20.He also reviewed the procurement of essential equipment and furniture and asked officials to ensure timely installation.
The minister further called for awareness campaigns to inform the public about the launch of OPD services and encouraged people in surrounding areas to utilise the facility. He also suggested providing temporary transportation arrangements to improve accessibility to the hospital.The govt medical college project has received administrative approval of Rs 500 crore. Additionally, Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned under a centrally sponsored scheme, including Rs 195 crore from the Centre, with the remaining funds to be borne by the state.Health secretary Saurabh Gaur, in-charge DME Dr Radhika Reddy, DPH Dr Padmavathi and other department heads were present.
