VIJAYAWADA: A special Pocso court in Palnadu district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in connection with a 2019 rape and sexual assault case involving a minor girl under the Chilakaluripeta town police station limits. Pocso court Judge Shammy Sultana Parveen pronounced the judgment, sentencing the accused to life imprisonment.
According to the police, the convicted, Rayapudi Mariyadasu alias Raju of CR Colony in Chilakaluripet, was found guilty under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Section 506 of the IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 and awarded an additional one-year jail term for criminal intimidation.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered in 2019 at the Chilakaluripet town police station. The case was initially registered by then SI B Sivaramaiah, investigated by former CI V Suryanarayana, and the charge sheet was later filed by CI T Venkateswarlu. The case was monitored under the special trial monitoring system introduced by Palnadu district police.
Acting on the directions of Palnadu SP B Krishna Rao, police officials closely coordinated the prosecution process to ensure effective presentation of evidence and witnesses before the court.
On the occasion, SP B Krishna Rao appreciated the police officers, prosecutors, and court monitoring staff who followed up the case and ensured that the accused is convicted.
