IPS officers across batches promoted in AP, Vizag top cop Shankha Brata Bagchi elevated to DGP rank
Vijayawada: Several IPS officers were promoted across batches ranging from 1996 to 2013, with effect from Jan1, 2026. The promotion orders cover elevations to the ranks of director general, additional director general, inspector general, deputy inspector general, and selection grade, including both in-situ and proforma promotions for officers serving on central and inter-state deputation.From the 1996 batch, Shankha Brata Bagchi, currently serving as Visakhapatnam police commissioner, was promoted to the rank of director general of police. He will continue in his present posting on an in-situ basis. In a separate order, Bhavana Saxena, who is presently on central deputation, was granted proforma promotion to the same rank.For the 2001 batch, Vineet Brijlal, who is also on central deputation, was accorded proforma promotion to the Above super time scale (Level 15) in the rank of additional director general of police, effective from the same date.The govt also notified promotions of officers from the 2008 batch to the super time scale (Level 14) in the rank of inspector general of police. Gopinath Jatti, S Senthil Kumar, and Dr Shemushi were promoted on an in-situ basis. In addition, Gaja Rao Bhupal, who is on inter-state deputation to Telangana, and Grewal Navdeep Singh K S, currently on central deputation, were granted proforma promotions to the same rank.
Officers who have not completed the mandatory MCTP Phase-IV training have been directed to complete it within 1 year.From the 2012 batch, Vikrant Patil was promoted to the Super Time Scale (Level 13A) in the rank of deputy inspector general of police and will continue in his present assignment.Promotions were also cleared for officers of the 2013 batch to the Selection Grade (Level 13). Those promoted include Adnan Nayeem Asmi, Aishwarya Rastogi, A R Damodar, V Harshavardhan Raju, D Narasimha Kishore, Y Ravi Shankar Reddy, R Gangadhar Rao, V Geetha Devi, and D Mary Prasanthi. All have been posted on an in-situ basis.
