Golden jubilee sociological conference ends at SRM University after 3 days of academic deliberations

Vijayawada: The 50th All India Sociological Conference (AISC) on "Mobilities and Inequalities: Shifting Contexts; Changing Paradigms" concluded after 3 days at SRM University–AP. The golden jubilee edition of the conference featured 35 research committees, 4 plenary sessions, 3 memorial lectures, along with academic and cultural events. Around 1,800 scholars, students and practitioners from across the country participated, presenting research papers and discussing sociological issues related to mobility and inequality.The memorial lectures focused on key contributions to sociology in India. The Radha Kamal Mukherjee Memorial Lecture was chaired by Sujata Patel, while Anand Chakravarti delivered a lecture on M N Srinivas, highlighting the importance of fieldwork in sociological research. The Yogendra Singh Memorial Session featured Surinder Jodhka, who spoke on teaching practices and historical perspectives in sociology.The conference concluded with the presentation of research convenors' reports and the election of new convenors and co-convenors. Shweta Prasad, Secretary of the Indian Sociological Society, presented the 50th AISC report. Associate Dean Vandana Swami delivered the closing remarks, followed by Vice-Chancellor Ch Satish Kumar, who emphasised the relevance of social science conferences in contemporary academic discourse.
