Tirupati: In a major boost to the local agricultural economy, a massive shipment of maize was officially dispatched for the first time from the Krishnapatnam Port in Nellore district to Vietnam on Tuesday.
Nellore district collector Himanshu Shukla, along with Adani Krishnapatnam Port Limited CEO Jagdish Patel, flagged off the vessel to initiate the export process. The designated ship, named MV Parvaraj, is transporting a substantial cargo of 53,318 metric tonnes of maize destined for Vietnamese markets.
Recognising the potential for a price drop in local markets due to the surplus, collector Himanshu Shukla took proactive measures to stabilise the economy for growers. By coordinating closely with the department of agriculture and the management of Adani Krishnapatnam Port, the administration established a streamlined export channel to ensure farmers receive competitive rates for their produce.
Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy appreciated the efforts of the district administration in creating an export linkage for maize for the local farmers and asserted that this shipment is viewed as a strategic step forward in the government’s ongoing commitment to sustainable agricultural growth.
“These export operations are vital for creating a broader market base for Nellore’s agricultural output. By tapping into global demand, the district can elevate the profile of its produce on the international stage while simultaneously increasing the income levels of the farming community”, Vemireddy observed.
