Vijayawada: The construction of the integrated terminal building at the premises of the Vijayawada International Airport is expected to resume shortly, with KMV Projects, which emerged as the L1 bidder in the tenders floated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the completion of the pending 20% of works, having received the letter of award (LoA) from AAI. The integrated terminal building works had been stalled for more than five months after AAI terminated the previous contractor at the end of 2025 over the slow progress of work. Following this, the remaining works were left in a stalemate due to the prolonged tendering process.
The Rs 611 crore swanky integrated terminal building being developed by the AAI as a steel and glass structure will spread across 36,075 sqm, along with a forecourt area of 5,370 sqm with six exclusive aero bridges, a first at the airport, enabling air passengers to board the flights directly.
The construction works of the integrated terminal building will resume in the first week of June and are to be completed within a five-month deadline period and handed over to the AAI. After completing the remaining 20% works, it would take another two months for commissioning the new integrated terminal building to obtain mandatory permissions from DGCA and other necessary permissions. In all likelihood, the new terminal building would be made available by the year-end or early 2027,” an AAI official at the Vijayawada airport said.
