Vizag gold theft
Visakhapatnam: The One Town police in Vizag on Friday arrested two persons, including a woman, and recovered 423 grams of gold ornaments stolen earlier this week from Kausalya Jewellery Shop at Kurupam Market. The accused were identified as Ommi Mangamma alias Manga (49), a resident of Dwaraka Nagar, and Devara Ramakrishna (40) of Seethampeta.According to police, the shop owner M Sudheendar stated that on May 12 afternoon, Manga, a known customer, arrived in a Honda Amaze car. After entering the shop, she told him that her physically challenged relative was waiting in the car and was unable to come inside. She said his daughter’s wedding was approaching and he intended to purchase gold ornaments. She requested the shop owner to show several items and, after selecting jewellery, sought permission to take them to the car to show her relative. Trusting her, the complainant placed the selected ornaments in two trays and handed them over. However, Manga took the gold ornaments, got into the car, and fled the spot.Based on the complaint, police formed a special team. Acting on credible information, they nabbed the duo near Siripuram and recovered the stolen gold from their possession.
Police said Manga, facing financial difficulties, planned the theft as she was familiar with the shop. She roped in her relative Ramakrishna, who sat in the car and was falsely presented as a physically challenged customer to execute the plan.
