Varanasi: The Koiraina police and SWAT team on Tuesday evening arrested four members of an interstate smuggling gang in Bhadohi district and seized 604.20 kg of illegal cannabis worth Rs 3.02 crore.”
The contraband was recovered from a four-wheeler vehicle and a truck container.
Bhadohi SP, Abhinav Tyagi, said that the police team arrested the accused near Raiyapur village, Bhavapur Nahar Puliya, and a case under Section 8/20 NDPS Act and Section 207 Motor Act was registered against them.
The arrested criminals were identified as Trishul Jaiswal, resident of Tikri, Prayagraj, Babu Ram Maurya, resident of Pawai, Azamgarh district, Suren Dharai, and Montu Sahu, both residents of Devgarh district of
Odisha.
Police also said that a total of 14 cases, including NDPS and other criminal matters, are already registered against one of the accused, Trishul Jaiswal.
During interrogation, the accused said that they had brought the cannabis from Odisha to sell it at higher price to people in Bhadohi and surrounding districts on demand.
