Vadodara: Food safety officers of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) checked paneer samples at 264 food business operators across the city, including manufacturers, restaurants and street food vendors.
VMC officials said the drive was carried out over the past week as part of a campaign to check the quality of paneer. Teams focused on areas with a high concentration of eateries suspected of using paneer analogue and also inspected dairy units.
The inspection covered 11 paneer manufacturers, 165 restaurants, 28 dhabas, 46 street food vendors and 24 other establishments. Samples of raw paneer and cooked dishes were taken during the checks.
Paneer samples from nine units were sent to the civic body's public health laboratory for testing. Officials also seized 17.4kg of paneer from one manufacturing unit. Sources said if the sample from this lot fails quality tests, the seized paneer will be destroyed and action will be taken against the manufacturer.
