US-Israel-Iran War News Live Updates: Iran contradicts Trump; warns Hormuz may 'not remain open' under blockade

US-Iran-Israel War News Live Updates: President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday said that the “steadfastness” of the Iranian people forced United States–Israel forces to retreat during a 40-day conflict, according to state media. He stressed the importance of accurately portraying the war and highlighting national resilience, claiming public unity thwarted destabilisation efforts and strengthened cohesion despite external pressure.

His remarks come as a fragile 10-day truce takes effect in Lebanon, aimed at halting fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah. Celebrations erupted in Beirut, though uncertainty remains, with displaced civilians cautiously returning home. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the ceasefire would not involve troop withdrawal, with forces maintaining a “security zone” in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has warned it may respond to any violations.

Even as backchannel diplomacy continues, tensions remain high. The United States has maintained a naval blockade on Iranian ports for a third straight day, ramping up economic pressure on Tehran. Officials in Washington have warned of further sanctions on countries and entities doing business with Iran, signalling what one senior official described as the “financial equivalent” of a bombing campaign.

The US has deployed naval assets to monitor and control access to Iranian ports, aiming to restrict Tehran’s oil exports, a key source of revenue. While Washington says non-Iran-linked shipping can still pass through the Strait of Hormuz, military activity in the region has intensified.

President Donald Trump reinforced the hardline stance, announcing a sweeping blockade. “Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,” he said, warning that “Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”

Iran responded with strong warnings of its own, with the Revolutionary Guards cautioning that any misstep would trap adversaries in a “deadly” situation in the strategic waterway, which Tehran says it fully controls.

Markets have reacted nervously. Oil prices have surged back above $100 per barrel, while global equities have declined amid fears of prolonged disruption to energy supplies. Analysts warn that the blockade risks being seen as a continuation of hostilities, raising the possibility of further escalation, including strikes on critical energy infrastructure.

3- With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open.
4- Passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be conducted based on the "designated route" and with "Iranian authorization."

US Iran war: Deal to end US-Iran war 'very close,' says Trump
US President Donald Trump told AFP on Friday there were "no sticking points" left for a peace deal with Iran, adding that an agreement was "very close."

Trump's comments came after a series of social media posts in which he touted progress on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending Iran's nuclear program.

"We're very close. Looks like it's going to be very good for everybody. And we're very close to having a deal," Trump said in a brief telephone call with AFP from Las Vegas.

"The strait's going to be open, they already are open. And things are going very well."

A first round of US-Iran talks in Pakistan last weekend ended without a peace deal, but Trump has said a second round could happen soon.

Trump has said the core US demand is that Iran should never be able to develop a nuclear weapon, and he said on Thursday that Iran had agreed to turn over its stock of enriched uranium.

Asked what the remaining sticking points for a deal were, Trump replied, "No sticking points at all."

When asked why he was unable to declare a deal at this point after his string of optimistic posts, Trump said he wanted an agreement on paper.

"I don't do that, I get it in writing," Trump added. (AFP)

The post from Central Command came shortly before Trump thanked Iran for opening up the Strait of Hormuz, which Trump said was “completely open and ready for business."

Trump, however, stressed that the blockade against Iranian shipping outside the Strait of Hormuz was still in place until negotiations were complete.

"A motorcyclist was killed in the town of Kunin, in the Bint Jbeil district, after being targeted by an enemy drone," Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported.

Under the terms of the truce, Israel reserves the right to continue targeting Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah to prevent "planned, imminent or ongoing attacks".

Israel also said it will maintain a 10-kilometre (six-mile) security zone along the border in southern Lebanon.

Iran war news: Germany's Merz urges US to participate in possible Hormuz mission
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Friday it would be "desirable" to have US participation in any possible mission to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking alongside leaders from the UK, France and Italy after a meeting in Paris, Merz said Germany would "take part in the further military planning discussions that are taking place, and we would also welcome, if possible, the participation of the United States of America".

"Soaring energy prices must come down again as quickly as possible, and this war must not become a transatlantic stress test," Merz said.

He added that a German contribution to an international mission in the Strait of Hormuz "may, once hostilities have ceased, involve the deployment of the Bundeswehr".

But he stressed the need for "a secure legal basis for this, for example in the form of a Security Council resolution" before Berlin could take part.

German forces could eventually help with "mine clearance and maritime reconnaissance," Merz said. (AFP)

US Iran war: Netanyahu says Israel has 'not yet finished the job' against Hezbollah
Israel has not yet finished dealing with Hezbollah, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday, vowing to press on with the Lebanese militant group's "dismantling" just hours after a 10-day ceasefire came into effect.

"Today’s Hezbollah is a shadow of its former self compared to the heyday of (Hassan) Nasrallah," he said of the group's leader who was killed by Israel in 2024.

"But we haven't yet finished the job. There are things we plan to do to address the remaining rocket threat and the drone threat," said Netanyahu.

Israel's other objective, the "dismantling of Hezbollah" wouldn't be "achieved overnight," he said, warning it would require "a sustained effort, patience and perseverance, along with skilful diplomatic manoeuvring."

Netanyahu said Israel's operation had "removed" two threats from Lebanon.

"A near threat involving the infiltration of thousands of terrorists and anti-tank fire onto our communities and a distant threat... of 150,000 missiles and rockets to destroy Israel's cities," he said. (AFP)

US Iran war: UAE envoy to India condemns attacks on its civilian infrastructure by Iran

Assessing the evolving security situation in West Asia, UAE Ambassador to India Abdulnasser Jamal Alshaali said that his country has faced an unprecedented wave of missile and drone attacks since late February and noted that regional tensions remain far from resolved.

In a detailed interview with ANI, the diplomat, in response to questions on whether the worst of the conflict is over, said the UAE has been directly targeted despite not being a party to the conflict.

"The UAE has faced 2,890 missiles and drones since the 28th of February. That is more than every other neighbouring country attacked during this war. These were unprovoked terrorist attacks against a country that was not a party to this war in any way," Alshaali said.

The envoy further alleged that civilian infrastructure was deliberately targeted and rejected claims of military justification.

"Iran targeted our civilian infrastructure, our energy facilities, our residential areas, and basically our model of openness. This was not a military strategy. It was terrorism."

He added that the attacks were aimed at creating fear among civilians and undermining economic stability. However, he emphasised that UAE defence systems "successfully intercepted" most incoming threats and that the country's response remained "disciplined and professional," Alshaali said. (ANI)

A cordon was set up and access to the gardens and the surrounding area was restricted. Police vans and a white tent can be seen at scene.

The police also said detectives were investigating whether the unidentified items found near the embassy are linked to a video posted online claiming it was going to be attacked with drones carrying dangerous substances. It said Counter Terrorism Policing London are aware of the video.

US-Iran-Israel War News Live Updates: The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday said that the next round of peace talks between the United States and Iran is likely to be held in Pakistan.

Responding to a question on the venue of the upcoming talks, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the discussions would "very likely" take place at the same location as the previous round. "They would very likely be in the same place as they were last time," Leavitt said during a press briefing.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s army chief arrived in Tehran for talks aimed at easing tensions and paving the way for a second round of US-Iran negotiations after nearly seven weeks of war.

Islamabad, which hosted rare direct talks between the two sides, has emerged as a key mediator, with any fresh dialogue likely to take place in its capital.

Meanwhile, the United States has continued its naval blockade of Iranian ports for a third consecutive day, intensifying pressure on Tehran. US forces have said they will intercept or divert vessels operating along Iran’s coastline as part of efforts to curb the country’s oil exports.

Washington has maintained that international shipping not linked to Iran will still be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz, even as military activity in the region increases.

US President Donald Trump reinforced the hardline stance, announcing that the Navy would enforce the blockade. “Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

He warned of severe retaliation, adding, “Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”
The latest developments follow the collapse of marathon talks in Islamabad led by Vice President JD Vance, which ended without agreement.

The US blamed Iran’s refusal to give up its nuclear programme, while Tehran accused Washington of “maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade.”

The breakdown has put a fragile ceasefire at risk and raised fears of a broader regional escalation. Analysts warn that the blockade could be viewed as a continuation of hostilities, increasing the risk of further escalation, including potential strikes on energy infrastructure with far-reaching global consequences.
