Vadodara: A simmering personal grudge allegedly ended in a brutal murder in city’s Kalali area early Wednesday, when a 30-year-old man was assaulted and stabbed to death outside a social function in the presence of his wife.
The victim, identified as Girish Bhaliya, was attending a social function with his wife,
Puja, when the attack took place. Police identified the accused as Darshan Marwadi and Karan Marwadi.
Investigators said the accused had been waiting for an opportunity to target Bhaliya. As the couple was preparing to leave the venue, the duo allegedly drove up in a car, confronted Bhaliya and launched a violent assault. He was beaten and then repeatedly stabbed, police said.
A shocked Puja raised an alarm and sought help, but the accused fled the spot.
Atladara police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings point to an old dispute involving alleged harassment of Puja.
According to police, Darshan had allegedly harassed Puja a few months ago, prompting objections from her and her husband. The matter had escalated to a community meeting, during which Darshan allegedly admitted to his behaviour and apologized.
However, investigators said Darshan reportedly felt humiliated by the episode and harboured resentment towards Bhaliya and Puja, which may have led to the murder.
Police have registered a murder case and launched a search operation to trace the absconding accused.
