Vadodara: Police have launched a large-scale verification drive following inputs about suspected Bangladeshi immigrants allegedly staying illegally in the city.
City police commissioner Narasimha Komar said seven persons have come under suspicion and authorities are gathering further details to verify their nationality.
“The exercise is aimed at establishing nationality and verifying documents. It is an ongoing process,” Komar said.
The operation comes amid intensified action against illegal immigration in the state. In May last year, Vadodara rural police detained 30 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in Padra taluka. Police had said they had fled Ahmedabad’s Chandola area and shifted to Bhoj village in Padra.
