Vadodara: A Vadodara paddler clinched a maiden double crown by winning both the singles and doubles titles at the Master National Table Tennis Championship held recently in Pune.
Laxmanrao Thakre defeated third seed Markad Purshottam of Maharashtra 3-1 in the semi-finals before beating Vivek Alvani of Maharashtra 3-0 in the final to win the singles title.
Thakre also partnered with Shailesh Gosain of Vadodara-based Deesha Academy to win the men’s doubles 60-plus gold medal for the first time. The duo defeated top seeds Abir Basak and Debasish Saha 3-2 in the final.
Earlier, they had beaten the Andhra Pradesh pair of Kokku Jayram and M Abbas 3-1 in the semi-finals.
