Trichy: Trichy corporation on Tuesday conducted a maiden blood donation camp at the Sanjeevi Nagar UHWC.
Ahead of World Blood Donor’s Day observed on June 14, M Karthikeyan, city health officer (CHO), launched the camp primarily to serve the blood requirements of patients at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital (MGMGH).
“To prevent commercialization of blood donation, we conducted the camp through MGMGH blood bank, providing lifesaver at free of cost for the required patients including antenatal mothers to prevent postpartum hemorrhage, thus avoiding maternal deaths,” said Senthil Kumar, medical officer, Sanjeevi Nagar UHWC.
Twenty-one people donated blood after screening. The local body plans to conduct similar camps in other UPHWCs.
