Trichy corpn truck catches fire, charred
Trichy: A corporation waste collection truck caught fire and completely charred near Srirangam in Trichy on Monday. The cause of the fire could be a fuel leak combined with friction, a fire official said. According to sources, two contract workers collected waste in a mini tipper dump truck from ward 21 and were travelling from Marakkadai towards the micro compost yard at Ambedkar Nagar near Srirangam. While passing on the Thiruvanaikoil bridge around 12.15pm, the tipper bed suddenly caught fire.Commuters tailing behind the truck noticed the fire and alerted driver Sivakumar and collection worker Rengarajan. They stopped the vehicle and got away from the vehicle. The fire quickly spread over the truck and engulfed it. Six fire and rescue services personnel led by Srirangam station officer L Sahayaraj arrived at the spot around 12.30pm. They doused the fire around 1.15pm, but the truck was completely charred. Police removed the remains of the truck before the vehicular traffic resumed on the bridge.
