Trichy: The urban and rural areas of Trichy district experienced heavy rainfall throughout Monday night, helping the ongoing summer paddy cultivation.
The district recorded a total rainfall of 67cm in 24 hours from Monday morning to Tuesday morning, the highest in the state. The Golden Rock raingauge station in Trichy recorded 10cm while Trichy Airport and Trichy Junction recorded 9cm and 8cm respectively. Other parts of city including Trichy West, Trichy East, and Srirangam received good rainfall. Heavy rain also lashed Lalgudi, Manachanallur, Thiruverumbur, and Thuraiyur. However, no rainfall was recorded in Musiri, Manapparai, and Marungapuri areas.
The rain brought much-needed relief to residents from scorching heat. It also helped in recharging groundwater in some parts of the district where farmers have started Kuruvai paddy cultivation early.
