KALYAN: Two persons have been arrested by the Bazarpeth Police for attempting to rob a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM located at the APMC Market in Kalyan.
The accused have been identified as Mangesh Jagatap, 36, and Naushad Ansari, 22.
According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday night when the duo broke into the ATM with the intention of stealing cash. Although they managed to damage the machine, they were unable to access the cash inside.
The damage was discovered and reported by the bank manager, who later lodged a formal complaint at Bazarpeth Police Station. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered.
According to ACP Kalyanji Ghete, "Based on CCTV footage from the area, Senior Police Inspector Sureshsingh Goud formed a team, which tracked down and arrested the accused within four hours."
Police said that neither of the accused has any prior criminal record. Goud added that prima facie, it appears the crime was committed due to a need for money to purchase drugs.
