AHMEDABAD: Two Pakistani nationals were apprehended from Harami Nala near Sir Creek in Kutch and their boat seized by the Border Security Force (
BSF) personnel on Tuesday.
The BSF men had received prior information about the infiltration bid by the Pakistanis and were prepared to act against them in the sluggish and shallow water channel spread over 500 sq km.
The moment the infiltrators were sighted, they were challenged and held after a chase, BSF (Gujarat sector) inspector general A K Sinha said.
The Pakistani nationals, who claimed that they were fishermen, have been handed over to the police along with their motor boat, said Sinha, adding that their antecedents would be established during the interrogation.
The BSF, which set up a permanent base at Harami Nala in 2009, subsequently inducted a few Italy-made All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) in the service. These ATVs have strengthened the operational efficacy of the BSF in the sensitive area, which has been vulnerable to infiltration, Sinha said. Infiltration bids increase in the area after the end of the monsoon every year and subsides before a new season begins.
