Ranchi Traffic Department Issues 8,672 Challans to Combat Traffic Violations

Ranchi's traffic department issued 8,672 challans between August 17 and September 12 to combat traffic violations. Authorities seized 44 vehicles for drunken driving and 1,180 for black window films, recommending license suspensions. Additionally, action was taken against vehicles with pressure horns, modified silencers, and illegal parking, with schools ensuring their buses comply with regulations.

Ranchi: The traffic department has issued as many as 8,672 challans under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, during the drive, which began on Aug 17 to curb traffic violations, traffic DSP (Ranchi) Pramod Kesri said on Saturday.Talking to the media, Kesri also said, “The challans were issued from Aug 17 till Sep 12.”He further said all shops selling vehicle accessories, many of which aren’t approved under the rules, have also been issued notices, asking them to refrain from installing pressure horns, modified silencers and additional lights, among others, on vehicles. “Legal steps would be taken against them, too, if they don’t adhere to guidelines,” he said.Stressing that over-speeding and drunken driving were major concerns for the police, Kesri said several teams have been formed to carry out checking drives daily, particularly in the evening. “As many as 44 vehicles were seized in connection with drunken driving during the period,” he said.As many as 10 speed violation cameras in and around the city were installed, Kesri informed, and said, “A proposal is with the transport department for setting up around 65 more.
The administration has also ensured that speed governors are installed in school buses, limiting their speed to 40 km per hour,” he said.Moreover, 1,180 vehicles were seized for having black films on their window panes. After making the owners remove the black films, the police have written to the district administration and the transport department to suspend the owners’ driving licences.The police officer said action was also taken against 5,791 vehicles for parking in violation of rules, while 71 vehicles, which were either parked at a busy place or for more than eight hours, were towed away. A total of 832 vehicles were penalised for having pressure horns, and schools have given assurance to the traffic department that their buses do not have them, he informed.The DSP added that legal measures were initiated against 220 vehicles for having additional lights, 178 for wrong side passing, 144 for having flags and boards without authority, 116 for triple riding, and 96 for having modified silencers.
