Ranchi: The director general of police (DGP) Anurag Gupta on Tuesday issued instructions to the field officers regarding maintaining peace and harmony, security around pandals, smooth traffic movement and curbing activities of anti-social elements during Durga Puja festivities.
While reviewing the preparation for the festival through video conferencing, he asked the officers to operate the district control rooms round the clock and inform the police headquarters about every incident. He said that SPs must execute the orders of warrant and confiscation against persons involved in communal incidents in the past adding that the hotspots in this regard should be identified from where continuous collection of intelligence should be done.
The DGP emphasized on taking strict action against persons involved in posting disruptive and objectionable messages on social media. He added that playing of unruly songs by disc jockeys should also be curbed. Gupta said that the administration should verify the procession routes for idol immersion adding that adequate number of police forces should be deployed at religious and sensitive areas. The processions should be under surveillance though drones and video cameras, he said.
The DGP said police forces equipped with anti-riot gear should be deployed while the quick reaction teams should remain on alert.
Officials should make sure that all puja pandals have adequate lighting, public address system, CCTVs and magistrates deployed along with police force around them. The administration should also provide proper parking places near the pandals, he said. The DGP said all measures must be taken to avoid stampedes during the Ravan Dahan during which a large number of people, including children and elderly, gather.
