Gumla Couple Found Dead in Rented Home: Police Investigate Possible Poisoning
Gumla: A couple, who eked out their living by working as labourers, were found dead in their rented home in Gumla late on Tuesday. The deceased Birsu Tirkey, 62, and his wife Bisri, 58, were found dead in their rented home in Dunduria locality. They are originally residents of Pathi village under Sadar police station limits, the police said.“Postmortem examination of their bodies was conducted on Wednesday, and the report is being awaited,” Dr Anupam Kishore, deputy medical superintendent of Gumla Sadar Hospital, said.Locals grew suspicious after the couple did not emerge out of their house till late evening. Neighbours then broke in and found Birsu and Bisri lying unconscious on the floor, with foam coming out of their mouths. Upon being informed, police arrived at the scene. While Bisri had already died by then, Birsu was declared dead at Gumla Sadar Hospital.“The deaths are being investigated from all possible angles. Reasons behind the death could be ascertained after the postmortem examination report arrives,” Gumla Subdivisional police officer Suresh Prasad Yadav said.
