Jamshedpur: Five youths were killed in two separate road accidents in the West Singhbhum district on Monday.
In the first incident, four youths were killed under Karaikela police station limits in the wee hours of Monday. All were riding on a bike and were travelling towards Bandhgaon when their bike hit a speeding truck from the side and came under the wheels of the truck. Three of them died on the spot while one of the injured succumbed to his injuries on reaching Chakradharpur Sadar Hospital (CSH).

Karaikela police station in-charge, Md Pyare Hasan, said that primary investigation suggests that both the vehicles were moving towards the same direction and when the bike riders attempted to overtake the speeding truck they collided with the truck from the side and came under the wheels. After the accident, the truck driver fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle at Bandhgaon stretch of Chakradharpur-Ranchi highway, about 40-km from Karaikela, and went absconding. “The truck has been seized while the driver is absconding,” the OC said.
The deceased persons have been identified as Akash Kudada (22), Akash Gope (19), Ravi Biruli (20), and Arjun Tudu (20) “The deceased persons were drunk or not will be known in the autopsy report.
Investigation is underway to know the sequence and cause of the accident in detail,” the OC added.
In a separate road accident, a 15-year-old biker identified as Pawan Karua, died after his bike was run over by a passenger bus in Kiriburu police station limits in West Singhbhum on Monday. Two other boys, who were riding pillion, have sustained serious injuries and have been shifted to a govt hospital in Rourkela.
