When Mike Macdonald arrived in Seattle as the Seahawks’ new head coach, fans quickly became curious about the people stepping into this new chapter with him. One of them is his wife, Stephanie Macdonald, who has spent years around the
NFL in her own way. After cheering for multiple teams and living through the ups and downs of football life, she is now firmly in Seattle’s corner. For Seahawks fans, this matters because coaching jobs rarely affect just one person. They mean moves, long seasons, and constant change. Stephanie understands that world well. Her path through the league began long before Mike became a head coach, and her experience gives a fuller picture of the support system behind him.
How Mike Macdonald’s wife found her place in the NFL
Mike Macdonald met Stephanie while both were with the Baltimore Ravens. At the time, Mike was part of the coaching staff and Stephanie was an NFL cheerleader. Their early interactions were brief, and she did not even realize he was a coach at first. During a December 2022 appearance on The Purple Chair Podcast, Stephanie recalled that once she found out, she told him, “We can’t do this.” The timing was not right, and both were focused on their careers. They later reconnected after the 2015 season ended, and began dating in March 2016 after Stephanie left the Ravens.
Stephanie grew up in Virginia and attended Virginia Tech, where she was part of the cheer team.
She later went on to cheer in the NFL for eight seasons, spending time with the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, and Washington Commanders. Looking back on that chapter, she said, “Each team had such a special place in my heart.”
One of her favorite memories came in 2014 when she was named a Pro Bowl cheerleader with the Ravens. During her time in Washington, she also sang the National Anthem before a game. Outside of football, she has worked in sales and balanced her career alongside the demands of NFL life.
Mike and Stephanie got engaged in 2019 and were married in 2021. When Mike was introduced as Seahawks head coach in 2024, he made sure to highlight her role, calling her an “absolute rock star” and saying “the city will fall in love with her.”
Stephanie felt that connection right away. “Walking in and having that warm welcome, I’m like ‘Alright, this is where we’re meant to be,’ ” she said. In December 2024, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Jack. Mike shared the news the following day. “Well, I guess the cat’s out of the bag by now,” he said. “But Steph had our boy last night, and both are happy and healthy. Man, It’s a crazy statement to say out loud, but we’re really excited and really blessed, obviously.” He also praised his wife, saying, “What women can do is just an unbelievable thing. What a warrior she is, and she’s awesome.”
As Mike begins his tenure in Seattle, Stephanie’s journey through the league gives fans a clearer look at the steady support behind the Seahawks’ new coach.
