Bokaro: Two persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court in Bokaro on Monday after being convicted in the 2019 Nawadih double murder case.The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge-I Deepak Kumar Baranwal held Govind Mahato (33) and Baijnath Mahato (59), both residents of Parsabani Tola Panbad under Nawadih police station limits, guilty in the case.Additional public prosecutor Sarvesh Anand Singh said, “The incident took place on May 22, 2019, when Mahendra Mahato was attacked by accused, who are his neighbours, on the road with sticks, bricks and stones following an altercation over a mango tree.”Hearing the commotion, Mahendra’s relative Bablu and his mother Sukri Devi rushed out to help, but were also injured in the attack.Mahendra and Sukri were admitted to Bokaro General Hospital for treatment. Sukri was later referred to Rims, Ranchi where she died on June 2, 2019. Mahendra died during treatment on May 25, 2019.Singh said besides life imprisonment, the court imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each convict. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convicts will undergo an additional one-year imprisonment, he said.
