Ranchi police have arrested 41-year-old Krishna Kumar Mahato for allegedly running a brown sugar trafficking network from his home in Lawatu Tola, Bhagalpur. During the raid, officers seized 253 packets of the drug—worth about Rs 55 lakh—along with a mobile phone, cash, and a weighing machine.
Ranchi: Police on Wednesday arrested one Krishna Kumar Mahato (41) for allegedly running a narcotics racket from his residence in the city’s Pundag police outpost limits.Mahato was purchasing and selling brown sugar at his residence in the Bhagalpur Lawatu Tola area. Ranchi (city) SP Paras Rana on Thursday said that based on a tip-off, police raided Mahato’s residence on Wednesday and recovered 253 packets of brown sugar weighing 27.74 grams, market valued at around Rs 55 lakh.

Police recovered a mobile phone, Rs 4,600 cash and a weighing machine from Mahato’s residence during the raid.“Police had information about Mahato selling brown sugar in the SAIL township area for quite some time now. He was mainly active in the Pundag area. During interrogation, he revealed a person’s identity from whom he used to purchase brown sugar and sell it to consumers. We are trying to trace and nab the person,” Rana added.The SP said that a case has been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against Mahato and he has been sent to judicial custody.
