Bokaro: The Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) introduced an advanced rigid bronchoscope facility in its ENT department on Thursday. The modern medical equipment will help doctors safely remove foreign objects stuck in the throat or windpipe of both children and adults during critical situations, officials said.
Doctors added that such incidents are most common among children below five years of age, who often accidentally swallow coins, toy parts, seeds or other small objects while playing. In many cases, these objects get lodged in the airway, creating breathing difficulties and life-threatening emergencies. Adults too can sometimes become victims of similar accidents.
Chief of communication, Bokaro, Manikant Dhan, said, “With the new facility now operational at BGH, patients can receive immediate treatment without being referred elsewhere. During the procedure, the patient is administered general anaesthesia, after which ENT specialists use the rigid bronchoscope and telescope-guided technique to safely remove the object from the airway without any major incision or surgery.”
