NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday announced a fresh round of organisational appointments across several states, naming Union minister Harsh Malhotra as the new chief of the party’s Delhi unit and senior leader Kewal Singh Dhillon as the president of its Punjab unit.
The appointment of Harsh Malhotra was announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin as part of the party’s ongoing organisational reshuffle ahead of key political battles in multiple states.
In another significant change, Abhishek Debroy was appointed the new BJP president for Tripura, while Archana Gupta was named the party’s Haryana unit chief.
Harsh Malhotra’s elevation is seen as crucial for the BJP’s preparations in the national capital, where the party is looking to strengthen its organisation and sharpen its political strategy.
Do you believe the BJP can recover from past losses in Punjab with new leaders like Kewal Singh Dhillon?
In 2022 Punjab assembly polls, Dhillon was denied ticket by Congress from Barnala. He was then expelled from party for not supporting party's official candidate.
He then moved to BJP. He contested Sangrur Lok Sabha by poll in 2022 and Barnala assembly by poll in 2024, both on BJP ticket. He lost both.
In Punjab, the appointment of Kewal Singh Dhillon comes at a time when the BJP is attempting to expand its footprint in the state ahead of state elections.
