3 rescued after fire breaks out at footwear factory in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Three people, including a woman, were rescued after a fire engulfed a footwear manufacturing factory in west Delhi’s Udyog Nagar on Wednesday night, officials said.The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call regarding the blaze at around 8:53pm from a factory located at L-8, Udyog Nagar, following which six fire tenders were rushed to the spot.According to officials, the fire broke out on the ground floor of the factory, which comprises a basement, ground floor and two upper floors and spans around 400 square yards.Firefighters rescued three people trapped inside the building after they suffered smoke inhalation and rushed them to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital through CATS and PCR vehicles.The injured were identified as Ramchandra (50), Manohar (59) and Payal (45).Officials said the fire involved machinery, plastic granules and oil drums stored inside the ground-floor factory unit. The blaze was brought under control by around 9:35 pm, while cooling operations continued for several hours afterward.Police have initiated further investigation.
