Alamgir Alam Granted Bail in Money Laundering Case by Supreme Court
Ranchi: Former minister Alamgir Alam walked out of Birsa Munda Central Jail here on Thursday after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged tender scam being investigated by the ED.Notably, a SC division bench had on Monday allowed the bail while directing that trial court would fix the terms and conditions for his release.The SC order reached the special PMLA court in Ranchi on Wednesday following which Alam's advocate filed a petition before the court for determining the conditions for his release.The court asked Alam to furnish two bail bonds of Rs 1 lakh each, adding one of the bailors should be a close relative and the other a local resident of Ranchi. The court added that Alam should submit his passport before the court and not change his mobile phone number and the address in his Aadhaar card without its permission.Alam’s advocate Kislay Prasad stated, “After compliance of the conditions, Alam was released from Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi. Among the bailors was Alam's wife and Pakur MLA Nishaat Alam.” Briefly talking to media outside jail campus, Alamgir said, “I was fixed in a false case due to political vendetta by opposition parties.”
A large number of Congress workers and supporters were present in front of the jail to welcome Alam.It may be stated here that enforcement directorate has investigated the case of tender commission scam after conducting raids at premises of Alam’s personal assistant Sanjeev Kumar Lal and the latter’s associate Jehangir Alam. During the operation ED had recovered a sum of Rs 37 crore. The ED had arrested Alam after interrogation in connection with the case on May 15.
