Raipur: A police station meant to record grievances has landed in the dock itself after a CCTV clip allegedly showed an assistant sub-inspector slapping a complainant repeatedly inside Ratanpur police station in Bilaspur.
The incident came to light after the video surfaced on social media, showing what the complainant alleged was an assault inside the police station premises.
Bilaspur SSP Rajnesh Singh has suspended ASI Dinesh Tiwari, while an FIR has also been registered against him on the complainant's request. The complainant, Vinod Jaiswal of Ratanpur, had gone to the police station on April 12 to seek information about an old case, the ASI got enraged, abused him and slapped him 15 to 20 times.
He further claimed the officer threatened him, saying he would "strip him of his netagiri" and send him to jail. Allegations have also surfaced that money was demanded in the name of filing or moving the case report.
He later approached senior officers with a complaint, after which action was initiated.
The SSP suspended the ASI and ordered an inquiry.
The viral clip is believed to have been leaked from within the police station itself.
Jaiswal is a coal trader and said to have close proximity to BJP leaders.
