Chhattisgarh employees seek work-from-home citing fuel crisis
The Chhattisgarh Karmachari-Adhikari Federation (CKAF) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the Chief Secretary, demanding the implementation of a “work-from-home” system for government employees.
The federation cited the brewing international fuel crisis and rising petrol and diesel prices as the primary reasons for this demand.
In a letter on Friday, CKAF state convenor Kamal Verma stated that the global geopolitical situation has created an apprehension regarding the availability of fuel. Verma noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been emphasizing energy conservation and the reduction of unnecessary travel.
The federation argued that since the state government has already transitioned to e-office and paperless systems, most administrative tasks can be successfully completed online.
The memorandum specifically highlighted the situation at the Mantralaya and various directorates in Nava Raipur, where a large number of officials and employees commute daily using private and government vehicles.
Implementing a work-from-home policy would lead to significant fuel savings while reducing traffic congestion and pollution levels in the capital. The federation has requested the state administration to issue necessary directives to start the work-from-home system in phases or based on departmental requirements.
